slow progress but I'm getting there

I am really enjoying stitching on my Vignette block, it has taken me ages to get it done but its almost there. The fabrics I am using are Fig tree quilts and I have used DMC threads to match, its very soft and pretty.

Instead of doing satin stitch in the flower centres I have done french knots. I like it much better.

I recieved my 3rd issue of Vignette today and I can't wait to get started on the next block.

Its time

For me to start

I have the fabrics

I have the patterns so far

I have 22.5hrs of time to fill in

on Thursday night and again on

Friday 10th June

my girlies and I are taking the

Spirit of Tasmania

and then doing a road trip to see

dh for a week in NSW

what better way to pass the time than stitch it away

now I just need to find the time to

prepare the blocks for stitching lol

I share a photo of my fabrics tomorrow

(as soon as I take one)

Ta dah! Blocks 2 and 3 are done!

How exciting to be able to show you my blocks 2 and 3 of the Vignette BOM. The stitching has been done for a while and I needed to finish the stitching on the patchwork and then make the shoo-fly blocks. So here it is! This is the left side.
This is the right side...
and here are blocks 2 and 3 together. Oh dear! The next magazine is coming next week and I gather there are 3 blocks to finish in that issue!
Happy stitching,
Sylvia

More questions...

Hi ladies!
I started reading the instructions for cutting the fabrics
for block 1 and the table on pg.31
says that for red strip first cut 2" strip, then cut etc...
however in the cutting chart on pg.35
one of them reads 2½".
I'm thinking I should follow the table on pg.31...
right?
My fabrics will be here anytime :-).
So exciting!!!

PS:  Is there a private yahoo/etc. chat room for discussing
information/questions/details of Vignette magazine?
Or asking questions here is fine?

So add one to your blog ...

... if you are a Vignette in Stitches Blogger...

... or if you are a blog fan...

Please add either to your blog, with a link back to Vignette in Stitches Blog.

Also, if you are a Vignette Blogger can you please check that I have added your blog to the blogger list ... if it is missing ... please send me an email with your blog address ... I have a feeling that maybe someone has been missed from the list.

How is your block stitching progressing ?
... I'll be honest and say that I still have the stitchery part of block 2 & 3 to do ...

Happy stitching, P

Fianlly my No. 1 Block is done....

I am one of these late starters but I have now finished my block One of Leannes beautiful BOM

I didn’t have Cosmo threads so converted the colours to use Aurifil threads. I am enjoying using these threads very much.

The fabrics I am using are ‘Swell’ by Urban Chicks and I am using the Hanky Linen for the stitchery blocks. I really love using the Hanky Linen and just might have to use this in future stitcherys too.

I am about half way thru stitching Block Two and have all the Shoo Fly blocks sewn, all the fabric is cut and placed into the plastic bags and numbered. So I am getting there slowly.
Can't wait for Vignette #3 to come out :o)More excitement!!!
Hugs to all......Vicki

Slow Progress

Hi Everyone
I am sorry to say that in this lovely weather I am out in the garden a lot so my stitching is not keeping up.
I am really enjoying seeing what everyone else is up to and I tell myself I will catch up when the weather is not so good.  I have started so many things but you know how it is Hexies - My Town BOM in Homespun Magazine  as well as two quilts for little girls...........
I never learn please tell me I am not alone in taking on too many things but who can resist????

Centres Stitched with Cottage Garden Threads...

 Using Faux...
Using Wheat...I had earlier thought that I would leave these centres just marked with the brown pigma as I couldn't find a Thread that would blend in with these Blackbird Fabrics rather than stand out which is what I didn't want...
Recently I visited a local Patchwork shop & spotted some Cottage Garden Threads...so glad I did I feel these centres are blending in much better than my original Idea...and I felt I was cheating also by not stitching the centres..lol
With the next Issue of Vignette Leanne will show us how to put the blocks together to make the rows...I have been putting my flowers into blocks with centre as I go mainly as I am using fabric from 4-5 different ranges in the Blackbird Designs fabrics I wanted to make sure I didn't repeat myself....
cheers

Progress with Blocks 2 and 3

I wanted to post my progress with blocks 2 and 3 of the Vignette quilt yesterday but Blogger wasn't working! Anyway, here are some pictures of my blocks. I decided to take 3 of them as it is such a long piece of stitching. I have pieced underneath the stitching and started stitching the flowers on the patchwork.

Happy stitching,
Sylvia

Sneak Peak ...

... the cover for Issue 3 ...

... the cover looks exciting ...

... this issue has 3 blocks .. 4, 5 and 9 ... wow ... lots of stitching :-) ...

... Issue 3 is due out around the 1st June ...

... like most, I'm still stitching on blocks 2 & 3...

Happy stitching, P

My Introductory Post

Hello everyone! I am new to this blog. I just was extremely lucky to find you all when I was doing a Google search for this cute quilt the other day, thank you for having me! I was waiting to get my fabric before I made my first post. I am not usually drawn to bright colors, but this one is totally calling to me. I usually am drawn to all things prim. I found an online store here in California that sells nothing but Japanese fabric and lo and behold they had the entire line of the Sweet Broderie fabric. If anyone would like to get their own, the store is called Super Buzzy, their service was great! Kinda sucked that I had to pay state tax since I live here, but I wanted this stuff really bad. Isn't it gorgeous? The picture does not do it justice. The fabrics on the left are some polka dots I picked up when I was out shopping the other day. I have also ordered some complimentary Kona solids from Fat Quarter Shop which I hope to get next week.

Here is my version of Block One. I happened to have some red polka dot fabric in a kit that I scavenged for this quilt. I find myself doing that a lot. I use the Transfer-Eze stuff for my stitchery, I am too lazy to trace most of the time. I've used it before and it works really well.

I keep bringing my block with me to work to stitch on during lunch time but something always seems to come up and I don't get to stitch. I'm looking forward to the weekend and hopefully a lot of stitching on this pretty quilt.

Stitching

I am just starting to work on this quilt.  I just received fabric and floss to get started.  I was wondering how everyone is stitching?  Do you stitch first on the white and then cut it to size and piece the block or put the whole block together and then do the stitching?  Which works better?  Thanks and can't wait to get started.

Finished blocks 2 & 3

I have just finished blocks 2 & 3 and am loving the colours that I have chosen. I don't want to discourage anyone but there was lots and lots of stitching in this block.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the whole process even the shoo fly blocks. I even completed the eight more in the same colours for block 14 or 15 and also completed an additional 7 the same as in block 1. This should give me a head start when these blocks finally come around.I have also included a photo of my block 1 that I finished a while ago but didn't post here.

Keep on stitchin.

Cheers Shelley H

Progress ...

I am excited to say that I have finished blocks 2 and 3 ... lots of stitching but very enjoyable!!  I can't wait for the next magazine in June!

I am only using a few thread colours so I love the look of the Cottage Garden variegated threads, they add a bit of interest!

Ready ... Set ... STITCH!

Several months ago, as I was browsing through blog-land, I came across a link to Leann's House which took me to a link for the new Vignette magazine.  Yes, like everyone here, it was love at first sight.  Normally I'm not an impulse buyer, but every once in a while, my un-normal self comes to the forefront.

I immediately began searching Google for a US supplier for the magazines.  Ordered them and within a week had them in my hands.  Took a quick peek and was immediately struck with the Vignette In Stitches BOM bug.  This was one I absolutely had to add to my already packed collection of WIPs.

Although I love the original fabrics used in the project, I knew that ultimately it wasn't "me."  So I began to look for something comparable that was a bit more my style.  I kinda knew what I wanted, but also knew that it had been out for a couple of years already, so finding a full fat quarter bundle of it would be a challenge.

It must have been fate, because I found possibly the only bundle left online of "Spring Magic" by April Cornell.  Love the colors ... love the "springiness" of the palette ... love the softness of the designs ... it was perfect!

Because there is so much depth to the prints, I thought it would be a nice balance to use some Moda Bella Solids to mix things up a bit.

I now have all my materials ...
Vignette Issues 1 & 2
Main fabric collection ... Spring Magic by April Cornell for Moda
Additional fabric collection ... Nature's Chorus by April Cornell for Moda
Coordinating fabric ... Moda Bella Solids
Hankie Linen
Fusible Batting
Cosmo Floss

Part of me just wants to keep all my fabrics collected, neat and gorgeous, but the quilter in me can't wait to dive in.

I'm so happy to be joining everyone here.  It's so fun to see all of the different collections that we're using.

p.s. As of May 1, 2011, Hawthorne Threads just received the "Sweet Broderie" collection of fabrics.  I'm sure they'll go quick!

Made A Start. :)

Finally organised myself to make a start. Thought i'd better seeing as book 3 is due out soon. :)
Easter Saturday i traced out the stitcheries for block 1. This is how much i've gotten done in a week.
Slowly getting there. Had hoped to have all done ready for the next part. Oh well. I guess i'll catch up by book 4. :)

Happy Stitching,

Just joined!!

I'm a late starter to Vignette in stitches. Just received Vol 1 on Friday. It is so pretty. Looking forward to starting.

Confession....

I'm going to 'out' myself so that others feel up to doing the same thing!!!!

I haven't even looked at starting block 2 and 3. I've thought about it. Fleetingly. Not gotten any further. The thought of it actually scares me beacuse it looks like a huge block. I have SO MANY block 1's of BOMs finished. SO MANY! I never seem to get past block one. I HAVE TO GET PAST BLOCK ONE!

SO....

who is with me?

let's set aside an hour in the next few days (choose your own.. we don't all have to do it at the same time!) to get block 2 and 3 under way. I'm actually going to do them as separate blocks because I think I'll work better with that idea.

Make sure you pop back here in the next few days with pictures of your progress.

Yay I have completed Block 1

I am so very proud to have finished block 1 and very excited about getting started on Blocks 2 and 3 this week! The pic above, was just before heading in to my room to get started on the last few butterflies and the satin stitched heart in the corner. It will amuse some of you to know that (this new boy I adore) pointed out (much to my absolute dismay!) how my points don't meet LOL - how long does he expect me to like him for?!!! Obviously not very long.

But he was happy (I think) with my explanation of how when there is backing on and it's quilted and not held up against the light, you won't be able to see the shadows of the seams behind the blocks and also that the unsewn edges will decrease the size of the blocks in the shoofly block and therefore they will actually be the same size as the others...

If I receive any more well meaning constructive criticism, he may get stabbed in the eye with my piecemaker needles!

Temptation got the better of me....

So - three days after joining the blog and temptation was just too much - the fabrics were all sitting there looking at me... so with the royal wedding for company I started yesterday! God bless bank holidays! Firstly, here are my fabrics:

The Shoo Fly blocks took a while....

But Block one is pieced and ready for the embroidery - now I just need to chose my threads....

I am absolutely lovign seeing all the different fabrics people are chosing and I can't wait to see some more. Happy stitching!
